Dear Founding Fathers,
250 years ago, you did something that must have seemed almost impossible. You challenged the most powerful empire in the world and dared to believe that ordinary people could govern themselves. It was, in many ways, one of history’s greatest experiments.
Many of you were imperfect men, but you were also men shaped by conviction, influenced by faith, and persuaded that our rights came not from kings, but from our Creator. You wrote words that have echoed across generations—words that continue to inspire people far beyond America’s shores.
I wonder what you would think if you could see us today.
You would see a nation that has stumbled and succeeded, disagreed and persevered. You would see a country that has fought wars, overcome great divisions, expanded liberty to more of its people and other nations, and continued striving toward the ideals you first put to paper. The experiment is still unfolding.
You would also see millions of ordinary Americans who still believe this nation is worth preserving—not because it is perfect, but because its founding principles are worth protecting and passing on.
As we celebrate 250 years, I find myself grateful. Grateful for your personal courage. Grateful for the freedoms we enjoy. Grateful for those who sacrificed to defend them. Grateful that this remarkable experiment in self-government continues, generation after generation.
May we never take those blessings for granted.
Happy 250th Birthday, America!
