Chasing Sun on Valentine's Day

February 22, 2021

I am that crazy person that will pull over to the side of the road to take a photo of a sunset. Truly, I have an obsession with them. The more dramatic, the better. And in my part of Minnesota, where I am surrounded by wide open farm fields, the sunsets are always spectacular. Sorry, Montana— you may be big sky country, but MN can give you a run for your money.

On Valentine’s Day we took a drive because, while insanely cold, it was sunny and beautiful. Plus, due to the dipping subzero temperatures and working from home, I had not gotten out of the house this entire week. So, I needed this. On the way back home, I started seeing the makings of a glorious sunset— big dramatic cloud formations. Hint, if there are clouds on a sunny day, you will get a ridiculously sunset. And this one was no exception. The firs two photos were taken from inside our SUV, so they are not very detailed, but you get the idea. In the end, it was what I needed, all the way through the last rays of sun from my back deck.

Driving with the big orange sun on your face— not fun.

As the light started changing. the glorious colors started exploding!

As the light started changing. the glorious colors started exploding!

The crescendo!

The crescendo!

And the lovely farewell to the day, from my back deck.
