✨ It’s officially go time, friends! ✨ Yesterday we got the best news — we can start moving into our new home on November 14, just in time to get settled before Thanksgiving. I can hardly believe we’ve made it to this point. This journey has been one year (and a month!) in the making.
Takes a couple of weeks ago, all of this will some be covered in sod. I cannot wait until Spring to add landscaping. :)
Some of you may remember, last October 9, 2024, we lost our home in a fire. I shared some of in this blog post about fire preparedness. It happened so fast, in the middle of the night, and only recently did my husband and I really talked about how close we came to losing more than just the house. It’s a sobering thought… but we’re choosing to focus on gratitude. God truly had His hand on us that night, and we’ve felt His blessings ever since.
Since then, we’ve been living on my mother-in-law’s farm (thankfully, she had plenty of space for all of us!). We’ve been renting from her while rebuilding, but as anyone who’s shared a home with family knows — it’s about time to have our own space again. So, November 14 it is. God willing, that’s the day we’ll step into our new home.
It has taken this long to build because here in Minnesota, demo statutes are insane, so it took many months to demo the burnt remnants on the property lot. But then timing also matters here in Minnesota, due to winter weather. So we were not able to start building until April 2025.
The past few weeks have been a whirlwind — inspections, painting, coordinating deliveries — all the chaos that comes with a new beginning. Because we lost almost everything, we had to start from scratch— from all new appliances to furniture. But the fact that I have not had to worry about the construction has taken a lot of stress of my shoulders. We’ve been blessed with a wonderful builder and a team of subcontractors who made everything go smoothly. We decided early on to rebuild on the same spot — we love our neighborhood and the people who make it feel like home. Below are some sneak peaks from last week. Eckkkk! I am so excited!
Our old home was a ranch style one level home. This time around, we leaned into a modern farmhouse style — cozy and classic, without going too rustic. And friends, I have to say… my husband earned serious brownie points for letting me design my Martha Stewart dream kitchen. It turned out even better than I imagined!
Once we’re moved in, I’ll share a series of before-and-afters comparing the old house to the new — along with how we’re decorating and making this space our own. I’m so grateful, so excited, and so ready to start this next chapter. Stay tuned — there’s so much more to come. 💛
